City of Cardiff Swimming Club are delighted to announce the selection of four swimmers to represent Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia starting on 4 April 2018.

Following on from some outstanding performances over the summer as well as at the Welsh Winter National Championships, Harriet Jones, Xavier Castelli, Bethan Sloan and Chloe Tutton have all been chosen for the Welsh Team. Bethan, Chloe and Xavier all made their Commonwealth Games debut four years ago in Glasgow, while this is the first Commonwealth Games selection for Harriet.

Xavier qualified in the 100m and 200m Backstroke, as well as the 200 IM, while both Chloe and Bethan have qualified for the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke. Harriet has qualified for the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly.

Head Coach Graham Wardell has also been selected to the Team Wales staff. He said “I am delighted to have coached four of our swimmers onto the Commonwealth Games team, and to be selected as part of the team staff. We have an excellent Welsh Team that combines experience and talent, and I am looking forward to seeing how well we can compete in Australia. The Aussies are so passionate about swimming that I am sure the standard in the pool will be truly mind blowing, and I know we will be ready to take up their challenge”

Ross Nicholas, Swim Wales National Performance Director, said ‘It is great to see such a strong group of aquatic athletes selected for the 2018 Games and their selection is a result and reward for the incredible dedication and commitment that they (and their home coaching team) show on a daily basis to improve themselves as athletes. To represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games is a highlight in the career of any Welsh athlete and the team is looking forward to joining up with the other sports at the Games to represent Team Wales with pride.’
